This page documents how Hash Ribbons is defined and how this site will compute the status in future versions. Transparency matters more than hype.

Definition (current)

Input series: daily Bitcoin network hash rate estimate (EH/s).
Short MA: SMA(30 days)
Long MA: SMA(60 days)
Status (heuristic):
- Capitulation: SMA(30) < SMA(60)
- Recovery/Healthy: SMA(30) ≥ SMA(60)

Data source

Hash rate series is fetched from Blockchain.com Charts API (no key required): https://api.blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate. Hash rate is an estimate (inferred from difficulty and block production), not a direct measurement.

Update cadence

Daily (UTC). The computed output is published at /data/hashribbons.json and the raw series snapshot at /data/hashrate_daily.json.

Reproducibility

Parameters are embedded in the output JSON. If we ever change MA windows or source, we’ll document it here and in Updates.
